{Day 36} Homemade Cake

Katie won the bake-off in her girl scout troop - which meant that she had to bake her cake again (twice in the same week!).  For the bake off, the girls had to choose from three recipes - and Katie chose to make the banana cake with cream cheese frosting.

{Day 30} New Growth

My day lillies are starting to come up.  I cannot wait for spring and color in my yard.

{Day 29} Father Daughter Dance

The girl scout father/daughter dance was tonight - with the theme rockstar.  I have never been good with costumes, so Michael and Madalyn went the jeans and tshirt route.  And added some lovely tattoos.

{Day 28} Holly

I took this one today while I was waiting for Madalyn's school to let out.  I was playing with all the actions - trying to see what would look better than black and white with some red berries.  And this was it.  It almost has that look...but not quite.  It's PW's colorized action.

{Day 27} Ash Wednesday

When you join our church, you get a cross necklace with your name on it.  It's a much nicer option than name tags.  We have quite the collection of these crosses.  We lose them.  We never remember to wear them.  And here they hang on the scrollwork of our bookcase.  I can't recall the last time they were actually used as intended.

{Day 24} Valentine's Day

Michael and I celebrated by going to see Valentine's Day.  I was kinda nervous because the movie got a horrible review in the paper.  It got a D.  And so did Percy Jackson.  But.  Percy's was deserved.  And whoever rated Valentine's Day.  Well.  They were just jaded.  It was a fun movie...and I left with a smile on my face.  Time well spent!

{Day 23} Sunshine on Snowfall

We had a gorgeous snow on Friday.  I am so glad that I got up early and took some pictures of the snow coming out on the snow.  It was magical.  But within a few hours.  It was all gone.

{Day 22} Movie Day

Today we went to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians.  Katie and I have read all 5 books.  And I invited my Latin students to come too.  For the mythology.  We were really disappointed in the movie.  The previews looked so good.  But they left out the crux of the book.  And the whole reason that there are five books.

{Day 21} Ella's Eyes

Once again I am playing with the black and white and color.  Of course with a grey and white cat, it becomes a little more challenging.  Kinda like her tongue picture.  But I think the eyes really pop.  And you can see what a little devil she is.

{Day 20} Getting Ready for Valentines

I know.  It's two pictures.  I just couldn't decide.  Madalyn had to make her box for the Valentine party at school.  I took a shoe box and wrapped it with aluminum foil.  Then Madalyn got a bunch of pictures from her favorite movie (Tim Burton's 9 - have you seen it?  Yeah.  We don't know anyone else who has seen it!) and taped them all over the box.  Then my mom helped her stuff goody bags for her classmates with candy and a Valentine pencil.

{Day 19} Katie's eyes

Let me explain.  Katie's art project this week is high contrast.  She was assigned to take pictures.  Print them in black and white.  And then arrange them artfully on newsprint.  So today she was messing with her pictures.  Cropping them.  And then laughing herself silly as she cut the eyes out of a picture she took of herself and put it on the cat photo.  I am most curious to see what her finished project will look like.

{Day 18} Channeling Lizzy

I think that I have created a monster.  Meaning me.  I am going through all my old pictures to see what I can make black and white.  And then bring back a pop of color.

{Day 14} Ella's tongue

One of the things that I have always wanted to know how to do is black and white photography with a pop of color.  I have asked other people...but what I really need is step-by-step instructions.  In English.  And today, I found them.  So I have been playing with my pictures.  And this one worked for today.  I can't wait for spring when there are actually pops of color outside my house.  I have a feeling that you'll be seeing this technique over here a lot!

If you have photoshop, here are the directions.
